Karl’s leadership of G3 marks a culmination of more than 25 years of working experience across a variety of agricultural sectors. He comes to the G3 CEO position from Bunge Canada, where he was appointed Managing Director, Canada in January 2013. In this role, Karl led Bunge’s Canadian operations of over 800 employees, including Bunge’s commercial grain handling and terminal facilities, oilseed crushing plants, refineries and packaging operations.
Previous to Bunge, Karl worked for nine years with Viterra, most recently as Chief Operating Officer, Global Processing. In that capacity, Karl was responsible for 34 manufacturing facilities with 1,200 employees around the world – milling wheat, durum and oats, manufacturing malt and pasta, crushing oilseeds, and producing feed ingredients. Key accomplishments at Viterra include strengthening the company’s presence in a number of emerging food ingredient markets including China and Southeast Asia and restructuring feed operations in New Zealand, resulting in significant improvements in operational efficiencies.
Prior to his tenure at Viterra, Karl was co-founder and then President of Can-Oat Milling, Inc., which included five oat processing facilities located in Canada and the United States. Under Karl’s leadership, Can-Oat Milling evolved from a greenfield construction project in 1988, to one of the largest industrial oat processors in the world.
Karl received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba and has been active over the years as a contributing member of various agricultural industry associations and boards.
Karl grew up on a family farm near Virden, Manitoba, and as a teen accompanied his father on trips to deliver wheat to the local elevator. From those early years connected to the land, Karl has spent a lifetime immersed in Canada’s agricultural industries.
